My client a reputable and established chartered institute based in their Central London or Edinburgh offices is currently searching for a Library & Publications Manager.
The purpose of the Library and Publications Manager is to oversee the delivery of the institute’s library and information service and publications, and management of the institute’s prizes and awards, supporting the institute’s role as a Learned Society.
Oversight of the strategic direction of the library and information services to ensure delivery against the Corporate Plan.
Management, development and commercial oversight of Journal. Annals of Science and other publications to ensure impact, quality and relevance.
Supporting the editorial boards and the Research and Thought Leadership Committee (RTLC) Publications Sub-Committee, including monitoring of governance processes to ensure they are fit for purpose and aligned to the delivery of two world class journals.
.Management of the library and journals budgets, including budget planning, monitoring and authorising spending within delegated limits to ensure resources are used appropriately.
Supporting the evaluation and selection online resources, books, journal articles, papers and research reports for inclusion in the library database to help build a body of knowledge to meet current and future information and research needs.
Build and maintain relationships with the wider member community and providers of similar services in counterpart organisations and universities in order to improve service, access information and raise the profile of the institute and its research activities.
Ensure effective management is in place for the heritage collections (historic book collections, records, publications and objects of historical interest) to ensure that the unique history of the institute is preserved for current and future generations.
Management of the Awards Committee and oversight of prizes and awards processes to ensure the take up of prizes and that the success of winners is celebrated and recorded.
Support relevant institute’s corporate projects to ensure successful implementation
Knowledge and Experience Required
Educated to degree level.
A proven track record of managing an information service.
Experience of supervising teams with the ability to prioritise own and others workloads.
Experience driving cross-departmental activities.
A professional qualification in librarianship, information management, records management or archives administration.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong stakeholder management skills.
Experience of managing budgets.
Membership of a relevant professional body.
Experience of providing knowledge support in a research environment.
Experience of working in a relevant field such as member services, finance or education.
Experience working with the journal publications industry.
Experience working with boards and committees.
Experience in producing MI and board reports.
